Kristen Secora has been awarded the Kala Singh Memorial Scholarship for 2014-2015!
Kala Singh was an audiologist who dedicated her life to helping others so that they could achieve their communication goals. She was tragically killed in an attempted plane hijacking at only 36 years old, and this scholarship was established to honor her contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of communication disorders and sciences.
Kristen studies American Sign Language and individuals who use this language to better understand how the brain processes language similar to and different from spoken language when it’s in a different modality (i.e., visual-spatial modality). She hopes to be able to help facilitate the discussion between researchers studying language, practicing speech-language pathologists, and individuals and families of individuals who have different communication needs, particularly those that pertain to deaf and hard-of-hearing populations.
